meet Lindsay.

Last but not Least!

Well, we are down to one week before the trip. I can’t believe it! I am Lindsay. I am a Hiram College nursing student going to the Dominican Republic in the Summer of 2012. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am excited because we will finally get to go to the beautiful Dominican Republic and meet everyone at Caminante but I am also nervous that might forget something important or lose my passport. I am really trying to mentally prepare myself this week before we go. I have been taking my dog, Logan, on long walks thinking about this trip and what things are going to be like in the Dominican. I find myself not taking anything for granted especially when it comes to my family. I want to spend time with them before I go because I think it will help me on this trip. After reading about the absence of a mother and father in a DR child’s life, it is hard to take my family for granted. I am going to get a manicure and pedicure with my mom before I go which I am very excited about. It gives me a chance to be with her and really tell her how I am feeling about the trip. I also plan to sneak in some time with my dad which usually happens if there is ice cream involved. We both share a love of ice cream which gives us an opportunity to eat and talk with one another frequently during the summer. My brother lives in Boston so I won’t be able to spend time with him but that’s okay because I have been talking to him over the phone about the trip. Both my parents are role models and are what made it possible for me to go on this trip.  I am so thankful for this opportunity to go teach and learn from the children in the DR. It is a once and a lifetime opportunity that I plan to take advantage of.
